Le peintre québécois Allan Edson naît le 18 décembre 1846 à Stanbridge, Québec et épouse en 1871, à Montréal, Mary Stewart. Ils auront 4 fils. En 1861, employé chez J. Pell, marchand d’œuvres d’art à Mtl, il étudie avec Bob Duncanson. Pour sa formation artistique, il va à Londres, en Europe, et 5 ans en France. Sans argent, modeste, il revient et est un fondateur de la Société des Artistes Canadiens en 1867, de l’Ontario Society of Artists et de l’Académie Royale Canadienne des arts. Il expose au Canada, Londres, Paris, Anvers et à Expo1876 de Philadelphie. Il vend une œuvre en 1880 à la reine Victoria. Il enseigne aux BA de Mtl. À sa mort, 1er mai 1888 à Glen Sutton, Qc, Edson est le meilleur peintre de paysages du Canada à ce jour. Il a su peindre les effets de la lumière du soleil filtrant à travers les feuilles dans les sous-bois.
The Quebec painter Allan Edson was born December 12 1846 in Stanbridge, Quebec and was married in 1871, in Montreal to Mary Stewart. They had 4 sons. In 1861, employed at J. Pell, art dealer in Mtl, he studied with Bob Duncanson. For his artistic training, he went to London, Europe, and 5 years in France. With no money, he was modest. He was a founder of the Society of Canadian Artists in 1867, the Ontario Society of Artists, and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He exhibited his work in Canada, London, Paris, Antwerp and Expo1876 in Philadelphia. He sold a painting in 1880 to Queen Victoria. He taught at the Fine Arts of Mtl. At his death, May 1, 1888 in Glen Sutton, Qc, Edson was Canada's best landscape painter to date. He was able to paint the effects of sunlight filtering through the leaves in the undergrowth.
