CENTRE d’ART DE MONTRÉAL
En 1792, les soeurs Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph transfèrent à Thomas McCord leur fief montréalais reçu au début de Montréal. Puis, vendu en 1796 à Robert Griffin, il est subdivisé en lots à bâtir. Le canal Lachine, ouvert en 1825, favorise la construction de maisons. Les irlandais, fuyant la famine de leur pays, le peuplent à partir de 1847. Il devient Griffintown et les maisons sont remplacées depuis 20 ans par des blocs d’appartements étagés. Le Centre d’Art de Mtl, un groupe privé, est installé au 1844 William Street de ce quartier dans une vieille maison à 4 étages et ses espaces sont dédiés aux artistes peintres de la région qui œuvrent côte à côte. C’est un endroit surprenant et agréable à visiter.
It was in 1792 that the Sisters Hospitalières of Saint Joseph transferred to Thomas McCord their Montreal stronghold that they had received at the beginning of Montreal. Then, it was sold in 1796 to Robert Griffin who subdivided the land into building lots. The construction of the Lachine Canal, opened in 1825, favored the construction of houses. The Montreal Art Center, a private group, is located at 1844 William Street, of this ward, in one of the old four-storey houses and its spaces are dedicated to local paint-artists who work side by side. It is a surprising and pleasant place to visit.
