Eugène Delacroix, peintre français, est un des chefs de file du mouvement romantique. Né le 26 avril 1798, il est initié aux arts dès sa jeunesse.. En 1815, il rencontre Théodore Géricault, qui l'influencera. Il se fait connaître avec un de ses 1er tableaux "La Barque de Dante", (11e photo) en 1822. Son style tranche avec le néoclassicisme en vogue à l'époque et choque. En 1832, il voyage au Maroc et en Algérie pour une mission diplomatique, auprès du sultan Moulay Abd el-Rahman et redécouvre "l'Orient". Ses croquis sont nombreux. En rentrant en France, il peint une de ses toiles les plus connues, "Femmes d'Alger dans leur appartement", (10e photo), tableau à la fois romantique et orientaliste. Il meurt en 1863.
Eugène Delacroix is a French painter and one of the leading leaders of the Romantic movement. Born April 26, 1798, the young Delacroix is initiated to the arts. In 1815, he met Theodore Gericault, who influenced him. He made himself known with one of his first paintings "La Barque de Dante", (11th photo) in 1822. His style contrasts with the neoclassicism popular at the time and shocks. In 1832, he undertook a trip to Morocco and Algeria for a diplomatic mission to Sultan Moulay Abd el-Rahman and rediscovers "the East". His sketches are numerous. Returning to France, he painted one of his most famous paintings, "Women of Algiers in their apartment" (10th photo), that are both romantic and orientalist. He died in 1863.
