Le peintre français Paul Signac naît le 11 novembre 1863 en région parisienne. Jeune, il perd son père et s'oriente vers le dessin architectural, mais il plaque tout pour se tourner vers la peinture et ouvre son atelier à Montmartre en 1880. Il rencontre Georges Seurat en 1884 qui l’inspire. De 1886, Il fréquente Vincent Van Gogh et est intéressé par la spontanéité de son oeuvre. Seurat et Signac inventent la peinture pointilliste, le fauvisme. Il abandonne le milieu anarchiste, mais il aime la politique et fonde la Société des artistes indépendants en 1908. Ses peintures sont marquées par son amour de la mer et des côtes françaises qui lui inspirent de grandes oeuvres. Après une fin de carrière ternie par la maladie, il décède à Paris le 15 août 1935.

The French painter Paul Signac was born on November 11, 1863 in the Paris region. When he was young, he lost his father and turned to architectural drawing, but he left everything for painting and opened his studio in Montmartre in 1880. He met Georges Seurat in 1884 who inspired him. From 1886, he frequented Vincent Van Gogh and was interested in the spontaneity of his work. Seurat and Signac invented pointillist painting. He abandoned the anarchist milieu, but he loved politics and founded the Society of Independent Artists in 1908. His paintings were marked by his love of the sea and the French coasts which inspired him to do great works. After an end of his career tarnished by illness, he died in Paris on August 15, 1935.
