(English version follows) BRITON RIVIERE, peintre anglais Briton Riviere est né à Londres le 14 août 1849. Il a fait ses études au Cheltenham College. Ses premiers dessins parurent à la British Institution en 1851-1852. En 1857, il exposa 3 œuvres à la Royal Academy et devint un contributeur. En 1865, il débuta une série de peintures représentant des sujets et des animaux domestiques (surtout ses chiens) avec des personnages. De 1863-67, il étudia à l'Université d'Oxford. Avant, il était illustrateur pour le magazine Punch ... Il devient associé de la Royal Academy of Arts en 1878 et académicien en 1881. Son épouse, Mary Alice Riviere depuis 1867 est également un artiste. Il meurt le 20 avril 1920 à Londres. The english painter Briton Riviere was born in London on the 14th of August 1849. He was educated at Cheltenham College. His first pictures appeared at the British Institution in 1851-1852, and in 1857 he exhibited 3 works at the Royal Academy and became a contributor. In 1865, he began a series of paintings of animal-subjects and pets (mainly dogs) with people for which he became known. From 1863 to 1867, he studied at the University of Oxford. Earlier, he was an illustrator with Punch magazine... He was an Associate of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1878 and Academician in 1881. His wife, Mary Alice Riviere who he married in 1867 was also an artist. He died on the 20th day of April 1920 in London, England.
