NICOLAAS VAN DER WAAY
Le peintre néerlandais Nicolaas van der Waay naît à Amsterdam, le 15 octobre 1855. Il étudie le dessin avec Louis Koopman et épouse sa fille. Il s’inscrit à l'Rijksacademie de 1871 à 1875 et a un atelier avec Jan Hillebrand Wijsmuller. En 1880, la société Arti / Amicitiae lui décerne son 1er prix pour "Among Friends". Il ouvre un grand studio avec Ernst Witkamp. En 1883, Nicolaas obtient une bourse ministérielle pour un voyage d'étude en Italie. À son retour, il est conférencier à la Rijksacademie et le sera pendant 30 ans. En 1891, il devient professeur et le sera jusqu'en 1927. Vers 1900, son coup de pinceau est plus libre, plus impressionniste. En 1922, il rejoint le peintre Jan de Boer afin d’apporter l'art au "peuple" à des prix abordables. Il meurt à Amsterdam le 18 décembre 1936.
The Dutch painter Nicolaas van der Waay was born in Amsterdam on October 15, 1855. He studied drawing with Louis Koopman and married his daughter. He enrolled at the Rijksacademie from 1871 to 1875 and has a workshop with Jan Hillebrand Wijsmuller. In 1880, the company Arti / Amicitiae awarded him his 1st prize for "Among Friends". He opens a large studio with Ernst Witkamp. In 1883, Nicolaas obtained a ministerial scholarship for a study trip to Italy. Upon his return, he is a lecturer at the Rijksacademie and will be a guest speaker for 30 years. In 1891, he became a teacher and will be until 1927. Around 1900, his brushstroke is freer, more impressionistic. In 1922, he joined the painter Jan de Boer to bring art to the "people" at affordable prices. He died in Amsterdam on December 18th, 1936.
