(English version follows) ARTHUR LISMER, (Groupe des sept) Le peintre canadien Arthur Lismer arrive au Canada à 26 ans. Né en 1885 à Sheffield, en Angleterre, Il quitte l’école à 13 ans, entame des études en art et devient apprenti. En 1906, il s’inscrit aux Beaux-Arts d’Anvers. En 1911, il œuvre chez des firmes de dessin publicitaire de Toronto, rencontre Tom Thomson, MacDonald et Carmichael et définit la connection spirituelle avec le paysage qui marquera le travail du groupe. En 1912, il épouse Esther Ellen. Il dessine à la baie Georgienne, au parc Algonquin, à Halifax où il dirige la Victoria School of Art and Design de 1916-19. Puis, Il est directeur adjoint de l’Ontario College of Art, et superviseur à l’Art Gallery of Toronto. Il établit, de 1940 à 1967, une école de peinture en Afrique du Sud et enseigne aux Beaux-Arts de Montréal où il meurt en 1969.. Canadian painter Arthur Lismer arrived in Canada at age 26. Born in 1885 in Sheffield, England, he left school at the age of 13, began studying art and became an apprentice. In 1906 he enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in Antwerp. In 1911, in Canada, he worked for advertising design firms in Toronto. He met Tom Thomson, MacDonald and Carmichael and exhibits the spiritual connection with the landscape that would embody the Group’s work. In 1912, he married Esther Ellen. He drew at Georgian Bay, in Algonquin Park and moved to Halifax to direct from 1916 to 1919 the Victoria School of Art and Design. He is also Assistant Director of the Ontario College of Art and Supervisor at the Art Gallery of Toronto. He established a painting school in South Africa from 1960 to 1967 and taught at the Beaux-Arts in Montreal where he died in 1969.
