Le peintre américain Kehinde Wiley naît en 1977 à Los Angeles, d’un père Nigérien et d'une mère afro-américaine. Titulaire d'un Bachelor of Fine Arts du San Francisco Art Institute (1999) et d'un Master of Fine Arts de l'université Yale (2001), il vit et travaille à Brooklyn, New York et veut replacer l'homme noir au cœur de l'Histoire. Il reprend de grands classiques de l'art qu'il recompose avec des personnages afro-américains imprégnés de culture hip-hop. Il s'insurge contre « l'absence du corps noir dans les tableaux » des collections muséales. Il s’est lancé dans la représentation de jeunes hommes afro-américains.

The American painter Kehinde Wiley was born in 1977 in Los Angeles of a Nigerian father and an African-American mother. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute (1999) and a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University (2001) and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His style is characterized by the desire to put the black man back in the heart of history. He repeats classics from the art that he recomposes with African-American characters steeped in hip-hop culture. He rebels against « the absence of the black body in paintings » of museum collections. He has embark on the representation of young African-American men.
